The Rugby Round-Up
The orange weather for Storm Ashley meant that all of the fixtures scheduled for Sunday were not played, including the seniors game against Galwegians and the SEG Warriors match against NUIG. Fixtures will be rescheduled. The only youth team to play this Saturday was the U15 boys, although the various mini blitzes in Gort and Creggs went ahead.
Loughrea fielded its first ever U8 Girls mini rugby side in the blitz – congratulations to Mike Grimes and all the mini coaches on this great achievement!
U15 Boys
After a slow start and conceding 2 tries in the first 10mins, Loughrea came right back into it and the game was evenly contested up to half time with no further scores. After the break Loughrea started brightly and within 10mins Eoghan Morrissey broke up the wing to score a well deserved try that was converted by Joshua Whirskey. With just a score in it Loughrea battled hard and were unlucky not to score another try 10mins later but were held short of the line. It wasn’t to be on the day and Gort scored two late tries to seal their victory. Monty Foenander had an outstanding game for Loughrea at inside centre.
U8, U10 and U12 Girls
The Loughrea U8, U10 and U12 girls travelled to Creggs Rugby Club for a blitz. Well done to all of the girls who played some great rugby, got stuck right in, worked hard for each other and did so with smiles on their faces;
